Crucifixes Made Under Horrific Sweatshop Conditions in China

Isnt it ironic that the cross a symbol of suffering in Roman days, a symbol of liberation for Christians around the world, is now once again an object of suffering for workers in horrific sweatshop conditions in many parts of the world today.

I wonder where all those braclets with WWJD are made? Next time your at the local Christian Bookshop why now stop and ask where all the little bits of pieces they sell are made? It could very well be by the Chinese worker quoted above at the end of a long 19 hour day.

Piracy

Pirates- lets face it we all love dressing up as pirates... but do we really know the true implications of the pirate lifestyle!!? This last fortnight there has been heaps in the news about the pirates off the coast in Solamia. THey have been reaping havoc and taking on massive boats. These pirates are BAD!

What i have noticed also, is what the media is reporting on... How bad the pirates are! Not on why the pirates are pirates and are attacking these massive boats...

Heres an insight:

* its not because of the lack of a coordinated international strategy to fight the kidnapping epidemic and a vicious ransom-weaponry cycle have resulted in rampant piracies in the waters off Somali, that analysts say.

* Somalia has been without an effective central government since the toppling of a military dictatorship by warlords in 1991, is the root cause of rampant piracies, observers say.

* AND Poverty in the region and huge profits have driven many locals to take on the kidnapping business.

*International Multi Nationals are taking resources from the area, leaving no business for locals

We cant jump up and down about the piracy, especially the multinationals, if the root causes arent being addressed- their involvement in the area. If there has been injustice to the local business community, lets restore it. Lets restore a government system and peace. The western world arent always the 'Goodies' and the poor who are driven to extreem measures arent always the 'Badies'. Lets get creative!

Beside the poetic gooeyness, and the profound video clip, i think this song brings another point home... asking questions. We can be fed and fed information til where fat, but i think we need to process it, understand it, and then naturally we will question decisions around us .. that is a possible path to justice! thanks Chris Daughtry.

Fondu

Stop the Traffik is encouraging people around the world to hold fondu parties to highlight the issue of human traffiking. A good idea? yes! chocolate and Fondu in the same sentence, a slice of goodness right there. And The issue of traffiking Sucks. I was in a meeting the other day, and it was mentioned that 'slave camps' exist here in NZ. This shocked me, really in our paradise? how can we be living day to day and this happening under our noses? Crazy stuff. our government are putting together a action plan along side many NGO's - awesome. more and more people know about the issue... But lets keep at it. lets keep being aware, speaking up when needed, being prayerful and holding Fondu parties for our mates and neighbours... !
